As the TUC march went down like a damp squib, one group were determined to take more militant action. Once again, disability activists put other to shame with their direct approach to fighting government-enforced austerity. This time, Marble Arch was brought to a standstill as wheelchair users locked and glued their chairs in a chain that blocked traffic in central London.
Wheelchair blockades have been a useful tool for disability activists such as DPAC (Disabled People Against Cuts) who are protesting the cuts to disability related benefits, now restricted to those with the highest support needs leaving those with lesser, but still significant, extra needs to fend for themselves. Also under fire are the infamous Atos, still assessing people's abilities wrongly with tragic and disastrous effects. For more info see http://www.dpac.uk.net/.
