On Wednesday(10th) Leah Lynn Plante, a 24 year old anarchist from Seattle was imprisoned for refusing to cooperate with US law courts.
An operation is under way in the North West of the US investigating anarchists, raiding houses and issuing grand jury subpoenas. This was the third time Leah Plante has appeared before the federal grand jury in Seattle, Washington. The topic of discussion was her political beliefs and political associations. The FBI and Joint Terrorism Task Force have been raiding numerous homes in Portland, Olympia, and Seattle in recent months. The FBI alleges that the operation is an investigation into violent crime. However it is has become clear this is an anarcho witch-hunt. Based on the targets the FBI and JTTF are zeroing in on and interviews with residents it is evident this is part of the agenda to tarnish the Occupy movement and political activists in general.
However Leah Plante is not the only one. Matthew Kyle Duran and Katherine Olejnik were taken into custody earlier in September for refusing to testify. All three have refused to testify and cooperate with authorities, their silence and refusal to rat on other activists has earned them cell time. A statement given from Leah Plante indicates that the FBI agents had raided her house on July the 25th under the pretence of a May Day vandalism case. Since then the political activist discovered through the Freedom of Information Act that this Grand Jury was convened on March the 2nd, that is two whole months before May Day occurred. Leah Plante wrote a compelling statement in anticipation of her incarceration. It ends with this: My convictions are unwavering and will not be shaken by their harassment. Today is October 10th, 2012 and I am ready to go to prison.
