ON THE CALAIS BEAT

A 15-strong Samba band from Belgium and Germany provided some welcome respite for Calais migrants from continuing police brutality by leading an end of summer party through the city streets last weekend. After crashing the Mayor’s ‘Hunger for Summer’ party to distribute info, the parade headed to the beach before finishing up at the evening food distribution.

Meanwhile back in Britain, a team of hardy Yorkshire volunteers braved the desolate post-Leeds festival wasteland to scavenge tat to help the migrants in the coming winter. Picking their way through fields of torched tents and bottles of piss, they managed to salvage tents, sleeping bags, roll mats, clothing cooking gear and three wasted students.
